Theia zooming by during "shark and minnows" in the rascals 101 intro to wheelchair basketball class at Courage Kenny.

Thank you so much for viewing Theia's fundraising page!! Let’s Team up for Courage Kenny Wheelchair Basketball, and help keep the program in tip top shape to continue to support disabled of athletes of all ages. Our brilliant daughter Theia is five years old and plays wheelchair basketball with the rolling rascals 101 class in Golden Valley, MN, including with her new friend Clara.

If you can’t donate right now, please consider sharing the fundraiser with your friends and colleagues and encourage them to do the same.

Don’t just take our word for it: we asked Theia all the important questions you want to know, and wrote down her answers.

Q: Tell us about you, Theia!

A: "My name is Theia, and I'm five years old and I'm disabled and I like being disabled. I turn six this winter! Winter is my favorite season because it's my birthday season. I also love my happy seat (wheelchair), my sports chair I loaned from Courage Kenny, and basketball! I love basketball so much, and I get to play it, make even more friends, and be active and SO fast because I play basketball with my sports happy seat. Having a sports happy seat means I can go really fast, stay balanced on lots and lots of turns and twist *makes wooshing sounds* and make LOTS of baskets. So give lots and lots and lots of money to Courage Kenny so I can keep being the bestest at all the basketball and my friends too. The basketball I play is with a happy seat because I'm disabled, and all of my friends in the class are disabled too! We use our happy seats to zoom around and around, and make LOTS of baskets. I also love the Zoo and Paw Patrol, and watching Veterinary shows."

Q: Why are you asking for money for Courage Kenny’s wheelchair basketball program?

A: "Courage Kenny needs some money to buy basketball things for more basketball classes, just like my class with all my best friends. All money helps because money is real nice. You should give them lots of money, because money will help them Courage Kenny needs some money for buying basketball things, so you should give them money."

Q: Who plays basketball with you, at your class?

A: "Not everybody can play with me at wheelchair basketball. You need a disability, like I have had all my lives because I have had one since I was a baby. I was a baby one time a very long long time ago. If you don't have a disability, that's ok, you can play regular basketball on your feet, with no happy seat and you just have to make sure you don't trip and fall all the time, and you can't spin around because you won't be disabled and have a happy seat. If you want a disability you might get one when you're older. My sister does not have a disability, but she really wants one just like me. I was born disabled, so I was born to play basketball and be FAST."

Q: What do you think you'll be, when you're a grownup?

A: "A veterinarian just like Dr. Oakley, but I'll be in Minnesota because Minnesota is the bestest. The Yukon is where Dr. Oakley is, but it's far away and probably doesn't have happy seat sports. I LOVE happy seat sports. I’m going to the olympics to win and be the best. And also do surgeries for horses and pigs, and probably cows too if their stomachs are displaced which means they’re flipped upside down. I know things. I know lots of things about science and animals and veterinarians."

Q: If Courage Kenny did not have a wheelchair basketball class, what do you think would happen?

A: “*dramatic sad face* I’d be super sad and cry a lot, and my friends would be crying too because we love basketball.”

How much money does Courage Kenny need to raise for its program?

“A LOT OF MONEY. A big pile of money so it can take it to the bank with a big big bag from IKEA. I love rainbows. That way more people can play with me, and I teach them and they help me too.”

And now, a bunch of words to help with search engine optimization...

Wheelchair basketball is a sport that has the power to bring people together, create a sense of community, and inspire individuals to pursue their passions. But for athletes with disabilities, playing this sport requires specialized equipment, facilities, out of state tournaments, and support.

That is why I am here today to encourage you to consider making a donation to Courage Kenny wheelchair basketball. By donating to my fundraising campaign for Courage Kenny Wheelchair Basketball, you will directly contribute to the cost of equipment, facility rentals, tournament fees, end of the season banquet, and help our teams compete at the highest level.

Together, we can make a difference and help ensure that wheelchair basketball remains accessible and enjoyable for everyone who wants to participate. Thank you for considering supporting Courage Kenny Wheelchair Basketball, and for being a part of our community. Let's rally and show the true power of teamwork!

About Courage Kenny Wheelchair Basketball

Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute has been a leader in wheelchair basketball for 30+ years, touching the lives of thousands of athletes over the years through competitive teams, recreational teams and hosting tournaments and other special events. The wheelchair basketball program serves 60 athletes (40+ youth) over five competitive teams, with the support of 15 volunteer coaches. Wheelchair Basketball is for athletes with permanent lower-body extremity impairment or disability. Many athletes do not use a wheelchair full-time. Participating in sports enhance participants’ independence, improve self-confidence and encourage an active, healthy lifestyle. To reduce barriers and increase access to wheelchair basketball we provide adaptive equipment, scholarships, and skilled volunteers. We also host a number of special events and tournaments that provide unique opportunities to learn and experience adaptive sports and recreation.
